  • Limited Practical Exposure: Students often lacked practical exposure to hospital systems, necessitating the incorporation of hands-on experiences within the curriculum to bridge this gap.

  • Limited Access to Diagnostic Services: Both university employees and the broader community face barriers in accessing diagnostic services on affordable costs, prompting the initiation of free screening camps and awareness programs to address this need.

  • Need for Quality Internship Opportunities: There was a demand for quality internship opportunities for students to gain real-world experience, leading to collaborations with renowned national institutes of repute such as AIIMS New Delhi, NCBS Bengaluru, IISc Bengaluru, NIMHANS Bengaluru, CDFD/CCMB Hyderabad, IGIB New Delhi etc. to facilitate internships.

  • Infrastructure Development: The department aimed to establish a state-of-the-art diagnostic and research center to enhance its service delivery and research capabilities, necessitating infrastructural development and funding acquisition. The building infrastructure has been funded and provided by the University of Kashmir and is now on the final stage of completion.

Addressing these contextual features and challenges guided the development and implementation of these practices to better serve students, employees, and the broader community.

             In parallel, the department's pursuit of special financial assistance under central government fund schemes such as FIST and SAP exemplifies strategic resource mobilization to support infrastructural growth and capacity-building initiatives.              Implementing the practice of sending students to prestigious institutes outside the state for internships poses significant challenges, notably financial constraints and parental hesitance due to safety and accommodation concerns. To overcome these obstacles, the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at KU requires resources such as financial support for stipends, travel, and accommodations, administrative assistance for coordinating placements and securing approvals, mentorship services for students, and effective communication strategies to address parental concerns.
